Gorton — both Gorton North and Gorton South — covers a large chunk of east Manchester. The area is known for the magnificent Gorton Monastery and the former Belle Vue entertainment district, but the housing fabric is mostly Victorian terraces.

The Gorton Monastery is a Pugin-designed Grade II* building and it's worth a visit if you're in the area, but for our purposes the more important thing is the surrounding housing. Streets around Hyde Road, Cross Lane and Gorton Lane are dense with Victorian and Edwardian two-up-two-downs, many of which have been Right-to-Bought from the council and are now privately let. That demographic mix — owner-occupied, council-tenanted, and private rental — produces a varied workload.
Belle Vue is mostly residential now after the entertainment district closed in the 1980s, with the dog track shutting in 2020. Newer estates have filled in around Belle Vue Stadium and the Velodrome, and these are where we do most of our recent work — EV chargers, smart lighting and modernisations rather than rewires.
Gorton has a high proportion of HMO and rental properties, which translates into steady EICR demand. Manchester City Council's Licensing department has been more active in recent years, so we're seeing more landlords get on top of their certificates pre-emptively rather than reactively.
