3-Phase Power

3-Phase Power Installation

Professional three-phase power installation for commercial kitchens, workshops, industrial equipment, and high-demand premises across Manchester. From DNO applications to distribution board installation and final testing, we handle every stage of your 3-phase project.

What a 3-Phase Installation Includes

A three-phase installation is a significant electrical project. Here's what we deliver at every stage.

High-Power Capacity

Three-phase supplies deliver up to three times the power of single-phase at the same current, supporting demanding equipment like commercial ovens, large motors, and industrial machinery.

3-Phase Distribution Boards

Purpose-designed distribution boards with correctly rated triple-pole MCBs, RCBOs, and isolators to protect every circuit in your three-phase installation.

Full Circuit Protection

Every three-phase circuit is protected by appropriate overcurrent and earth-leakage devices, ensuring safe operation of high-power equipment and compliance with BS 7671.

Load Balancing

We design the distribution to balance loads evenly across all three phases, maximising efficiency and preventing overload on any single phase.

Industrial Equipment Wiring

Specialist wiring for three-phase machines including commercial kitchen equipment, air conditioning units, compressors, welders, and CNC machinery.

DNO Liaison & Certification

We manage the entire DNO application process and provide full Electrical Installation Certificates and Building Regulations compliance documentation on completion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Three-phase power delivers electricity through three separate conductors, providing significantly more power than a standard single-phase supply. You typically need 3-phase power when your total electrical demand exceeds what a single-phase supply can provide (usually around 60–80 amps), or when you need to run three-phase equipment such as commercial ovens, large motors, industrial compressors, or CNC machines.

Getting a new 3-phase supply involves applying to your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) – in the Manchester area, this is typically Electricity North West. The DNO will install the supply cable and meter. We handle the application process on your behalf, coordinate with the DNO, and then install the distribution board, sub-mains, and all internal wiring once the supply is live.

The internal electrical work typically takes 2 to 5 days depending on the size and complexity of the installation. However, the overall timeline depends largely on the DNO’s lead time for providing the supply, which can range from 4 to 12 weeks. We submit the DNO application as early as possible to minimise delays.

Yes. This is a common requirement for businesses that have outgrown their single-phase supply. The process involves a DNO application for a 3-phase service, installation of a new 3-phase meter, and a new three-phase distribution board. Your existing single-phase circuits can continue to operate alongside the new 3-phase circuits.

Single-phase power uses one live conductor and provides 230V. Three-phase power uses three live conductors, each carrying 230V, but offset in timing to deliver a combined 400V between phases. This means 3-phase can deliver roughly three times the power of single-phase at the same current rating, making it essential for high-demand commercial and industrial applications.
