What's Included in Our Extension Service

A complete electrical package for your home extension — from cable routing and circuit design to final testing and certification

First-Fix & Second-Fix

All cabling routed before plastering (first-fix), then sockets, switches, and fittings installed after decoration (second-fix). We schedule around your builder to keep the project on track.

Lighting Design

Recessed downlights, pendant fittings, wall lights, and dimmer controls tailored to each room in your extension. We design the layout for the best balance of task and ambient lighting.

Comprehensive Socket Layout

Generous socket provision placed at ergonomic heights and positions. USB sockets, TV points, and data outlets included where needed so you’re not relying on extension leads.

Consumer Unit Integration

New circuits connected to your existing consumer unit or a new sub-board installed for the extension. We ensure adequate capacity and full RCD protection for every new circuit.

Smoke & Heat Alarms

Building Regulations require interlinked smoke detection in all new habitable rooms. We install mains-powered alarms linked to your existing system for whole-house coverage.

Testing & Certification

Comprehensive testing of every circuit and an Electrical Installation Certificate, included as standard. As extension wiring is notifiable, we will also advise you on Building Control registration.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the capacity and condition of your current unit. In many cases, we can add new circuits to spare ways in your existing consumer unit. However, if it’s full, outdated, or lacks RCD protection, we may recommend upgrading to a larger unit or installing a secondary unit for the extension. We assess this during our free site survey.

We typically carry out first-fix wiring after the walls, roof, and floor are in place but before plastering and insulation are finished. Second-fix – installing sockets, switches, light fittings, and making final connections – happens after plastering and decoration. Early engagement at the planning stage helps us coordinate with your builder for the smoothest build.

Yes. All new electrical circuits in an extension are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations. We carry out and test the work to BS 7671 and issue an Electrical Installation Certificate on completion; as notifiable work it also needs registering with Building Control, and we’ll advise you on how that’s handled for your job.

Absolutely. An extension project is the perfect opportunity to add outdoor lighting, weatherproof garden sockets, and security lighting. We can run cables to the garden during the first-fix stage, saving you the cost of retrofitting later.
